1988 Mazda 323 GTX ($2,800)

I’m not sure how it’s possible for a 21 year old Mazda to have an interior like that, but the fact that it’s Mazda’s turbo powered all-wheel drive late-80s supercar makes it an unbelievable deal. This is a car that can not possibly ever sell for less money than this. A paint job would probably double the price.

The ultimate Dodge Shadow, turbo’d and tuned by the man himself, Carrol Shelby. Not stupid fast by any means – but there were only 750 made, and this is almost certain to have some amount of collector value.

For reasons unknown, this is my favorite Golf bodystyle. While I think I would prefer to own a VR6, I love the way the R32 looks and drives. Could be sprung a little stiffer, easy enough to take care of.

Enzo Ferrari’s greatest road-going accomplishment? A twin-turbo fire breather, that you should NEVER let your friends drive. Everything that was right about the 80s is right here in front of you. This is almost certainly the most raw Ferrari ever to see the streets.

The first GMC to make the list, and probably the greatest GMC ever made. They might as well have strapped a JATO rocket to a pickup, and it worked. If you want a fast truck, and you have lots of spare rear tires – this is the truck for you.

Any old Datsun with a Mustang rear end should probably be purchased immediately.

I realize that this is not exactly a practical used car, but it’s coolness pretty much eclipses all other considerations. This would make a perfect second car for ANYONE. Consider this a post for the posterity for the Renault Turbo.

Some people might call it plain, and a lot of people might complain about the window regulators – but this is a a lot of car for under $7k. There hasn’t been a GTI in a while that couldn’t use a stiffer suspension, but this one is probably due anyway.

1987 Chevy Sprint Turbo side

The Chevy/Geo Metro, and Suzuki Swift were generally not greatly loved cars (except by their owners), and few people are even aware of their predecessor, the Chevy Sprint. All of these cars are built by Suzuki, but this particular one has an intercooled turbocharger, and very little weight to drag around. If you love turbo powered hatchbacks, this is an affordable, reliable, classic.

The 2006 Mazdaspeed Mazda6 is a fairly unloved car, but that doesn’t make it any less cool. A powerful turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and AWD is generally a recipe for fun. Not as edgy as an Evo or STI, but a very satisfyin car to drive.
